Erik Robinson
Erik Robinson earned a bachelor of science in psychology from Ferrum College in 1994. A Dean’s List student and leader on campus, Robinson was a student representative of the Alumni Board of Directors, a member of the Praetorian Honor Society, peer educator, psychology tutor, Student Government Secretary and a member of the football and baseball teams. Robinson served as Student Government President his senior year. After graduation, he accepted a position with Virginia Baptist Children’s Home as an emergency care worker and has been devoted to at-risk children and their families ever since. As a foster care social worker for Roanoke City Department of Social Services, Robinson was responsible for managing a caseload of 30 children from culturally diverse, socioeconomic backgrounds with a mission of providing crisis intervention therapy, comprehensive assessments, treatment planning and progress documentation. In this role, Robinson was a key participant in weekly court cases. He also dedicated his time as a detention outreach worker for Roanoke City Court Services.
As an in-home counselor for Family Preservation Services of Christiansburg, Robinson provides his clients with treatment plan development and implantation along with parent skills training through the use of proper therapeutic interventions. Robinson has served as a counselor for Depaul Family Services and Hall Mentoring Services. He has also assisted Family Service of the Roanoke Valley as a facilitator in the divorcing parents program.
In 2005, Robinson and college roommate Billy Wagner formed the Second Chance Learning Center, a non-profit foundation established to address the school dropout rate in Southwest Virginia.
His professional and community recognitions include: President of the Bluefield Virginia Rotary Club, President of the Bluefield Business and Professionals Association, member of the local Board for Southwest Virginia Community College, member of the Board of Trustees for the Carlock/Pruett Foundation, member of the Board of Directors for the Executive Sales Club, member of the Board of Directors for the Bluefield Chamber of Commerce, member of the Board of Directors for the Tazewell Chamber of Commerce and member of the Kiwanis Club. He is a recipient of the Outstanding Community Service Award by Bland County Department of Social Services, recipient of the Outstanding Community Service Award by Fincastle Presbyterian Church, Alumni of the Year for Ferrum College and was honored by the Southwest Virginia Reading Council with the Celebrate Literacy Award.
Erik and his wife, AJ, reside in Bluefield, Virginia with their two children, twins, Sophia and Dalton.
